Talk to Stannah about Passenger Lifts, Platform Wheelchair Lifts or Stairlifts and ensure your building says ‘welcome’ to everyone.
Access to public buildings has long been extremely difficult, if not impossible, for many disabled people and, in particular, wheelchair users. There are times in most people's lives when access is an obstacle to overcome - people with arthritis or a heart condition, elderly people or those with temporary disabilities for example. It is only recently that these issues have found their way onto government agendas.
Today there is guidance in place to ensure access for disabled people is provided. The Disability Discrimination Act is an Act of Parliament which provides advice on what should be done to achieve ‘access for all’. Building Regulations Part M (England and Wales) and Section 4.2 of the Technical Handbook (Scotland) prescribes how to achieve ‘access for all’ in new build and refurbishment projects, setting the ways in which accessibility must be tackled at the design and build stages of a public area.
BS8300:2001 gathers all the relevant standards under one ‘umbrella’ to ensure that every aspect of disability is taken into account in building design. If your building both meets the requirements of the DDA and complies with Part M/Section 4.2 of the Technical Handbook (Scotland) then it has reached the Standard BS8300.
When considering lift provision, BS8300 recommends that the various solutions available should be considered in the following order:
1
Wherever possible, a conventional passenger lift should be considered first and foremost. The Stannah Maxilift range of passenger lifts can help - for more information, visit our
Passenger Lifts site, call us on 01264 339090 or complete a
contact form.
2
If a conventional passenger lift cannot be accommodated, the next solution to consider is a vertical platform lift. A range of Midilift vertical platform lifts are available from Stannah - for more information, visit our
Platform Lifts site, call us on 01264 339090 or complete a
contact form.
3
Should neither of the above options be applicable, a platform stairlift may be a useful solution, providing it does not impact on fire escape access. Our Stairiser range is ideal here - for more information, visit our
Platform Lifts site, call us on 01264 339090 or complete a
contact form.

Once all of the alternatives have been explored and discounted, a stairlift may be a viable solution to your access needs. Find out more about the full range of
