Case Study: Improving on Nature: a Stannah platform lift beats the tides in a Northumberland B&B

Thanks to a Stannah Midilift SL platform lift, Fenham Farm B&B in Beal, near the North Sea coast, offers 24/7 access to all guests – outperforming the Holy Island of Lindisfarne it overlooks, famously only reachable by the causeway at low tide.

With a new, thriving business to run, it was imperative that this recently converted collection of outbuildings on a working farm delivered all-day access for everyone, including wheelchair-users, allowing them to come and go easily and appreciate this historic area of outstanding natural beauty.

With its predominantly clear-glazed construction, the platform lift complements Fenham Farm B&B's coastal aesthetic, moving less ambulant guests between facilities ranged over two floors.

Importantly, the Midilift SL helps the owners, Walter and Gill Curry, meet the requirements of the Equality Act 2010:

“Our Midilift SL platform lift plays a vital role in our daily operation, welcoming everyone to Fenham Farm and its glorious surroundings. It's certainly delivering the goods, on installation, performance and after-care. We are particularly delighted with the glass panels as guests can watch Holy Island loom into view as they reach the first floor – an atmospheric experience in keeping with the whole area.”
Gill Curry, Owner, Fenham Farm B&B

Simple to use, the push-button operation is located on an easy reach control console, with an on-board intercom and klaxon alarm offering further reassurance if help is needed. A roomy platform and light grey safety flooring make manoeuvring in and out if the lift easy for any passenger.

Supplied in its own structure, the Midilift does not require a purpose-built shaft, making it quick and easy to install with the minimum of builder's work – just 1-4 days, depending on site conditions and lift travel.

As with all Stannah lift products, the Midilift SL platform lift is covered by Stannah’s comprehensive lift service plan, which includes four service visits, with continued lift maintenance by the North and North East England branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
