Stannah and Spurgeons - fundraising in their 150th years
Fundraising partnership gives a welcome lift to local children’s charity
The Brackley branch of Stannah Lift Services Ltd has pledged to raise up to £10,000 to support the work of Spurgeons Children’s Charity, as part of a partnership to mark both their 150th anniversaries.
Stannah’s Brackley branch is aiming to raise a minimum of £3,000 in seven months to support Spurgeons work with vulnerable children and families across the country. The total could top £7,500 with a pledge from Stannah to match fund raised by 150 per cent. Money raised will go to support Spurgeons work, with over 1,500 young carers, including many as young as six who care for parents or siblings. It will also benefit girls who are at risk of being drawn into a culture of gang violence and exploitation.
A series of fundraising events are being planned by Brackley staff, including a family fun day with an auction and raffle. Staff will also be selling cakes and bacon baps bi monthly, amongst various other things in their Brackley Branch. Stannah has 11 service branches nationwide, with the Brackley branch looking after Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Berkshire.
Spurgeons chief executive Ross Hendry said: “It’s fantastic to know that so many of Stannah’s staff will be supporting us by holding fundraising events. Our shared anniversary adds an extra and unique dimension to our partnership and will enable us to extend our work delivering hope to children and families across the country”.
Brackley branch manager for Stannah Lift Services, Kes Wycherley, comments: “We are delighted to be fundraising in our region of the UK for a brilliant local charity, Spurgeons. 2017 is a very special year us all - both celebrating our 150th anniversaries”.
- Baptist minister Charles Haddon Spurgeon responded to the poverty in Victorian England in 1867, by founding a boy’s orphanage in Stockwell, London.
- Joseph Stannah started his business in London in the same year, making cranes and hoists to move goods around the bustling docks of the industrial revolution.
Whilst Stannah is known for stairlifts, its roots began in the industrial side of the business and it continues to provide lifts of all types, escalators and moving walkways and provide service and maintenance for over 91,000 lift products in the UK - all types of lifts from all manufactures. Stannah has grown to be the UK’s leading independent supplier of lift products and is still family run by the fifth generation of Joseph’s descendants.
Spurgeons is now one of the UK's leading children's charities, supporting children and families affected by social disadvantage. In the last year, it delivered over 80 services, reaching over 37,000 children and 64,000 parents or carers.
