Stannah escalator team win Wessex Capacity Alliance ‘Contractor of the Month - July 2017’
The Stannah escalator team has been rightly rewarded for their work for the Wessex Capacity Alliance – a collaboration of Skanska, Colas Rail, Mott MacDonald, AECOM and Network Rail.
In July 2017 the Stannah team installed six escalators in Waterloo Station as part of the £400M upgrade and began installation work on further Wessex Capacity Alliance infrastructure projects simultaneously. The installation time for all six escalators was squeezed to a challenging six weeks and their delivery was absolutely crucial to the maintenance of the project timeline and station opening for the well documented blockade period.
David Saunders, Stannah Escalator & Moving Walkway (EMW) manager, explains:
‘This award was not just for contractors on the Waterloo project but for all Wessex Capacity Alliance projects in the UK. We were awarded this at the most demanding time so this makes it all the more rewarding for our EMW team, especially John Metcalfe who was the project manager. It was a very intense installation programme but, as usual, the team gave their all and completed the escalators in record time. The equipment is all complete and commissioned by our team. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all my team for their dedication and determination to meet the squeezed timings and technical challenges with the bespoke bearing seating. I’m delighted their efforts have been recognised in this way.’
The Stannah team has now moved straight onto Abbeywood Station and Luton Airport where, once again, their installations are crucial within the overall project deliverables.
All of the lift equipment on Waterloo Station is maintained by Stannah for Network Rail, as part of its national contract for station equipment across the UK.Caption: pictured are (left to right)
