Case Study: 35-year-old lift sighted in W1 hotel

Over 35 years later, a Piccolo lift in a small family-run hotel convenient for London’s West End shows no signs of giving up.

When Hotel La Place underwent its original transformation in 1988, blending modern facilities with traditional design was considered crucial, including the provision of a modern, reliable lift.

The charming three-person lift was the perfect choice, travelling effortlessly at a speed of 0.5m/s between all five floors, it spares both staff and guests’ legs. The rich, puce-coloured exterior opens to reveal a chic, mirrored interior with an original control panel in satin stainless-steel, complete with a Stannah heritage logo.

Hotel owner, Hal Jaffer, has only praise for their long-serving lift:

“Our Piccolo performs perfectly, easily handling all stops between basement and the top floor. We’d be lost without it and are delighted that it is happy to call Hotel La Place home.”
Hal Jaffer, Owner, Hotel La Place

The Hotel La Place Piccolo owes its longevity to its comprehensive lift maintenance service contract, provided by our London and the South East Dartford service branch, part of a nationwide network of 11 Stannah service branches providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.

This emphasis on ongoing regular maintenance since its installation, means the hotel lift is showing little sign of wear, with its function and interior features remaining in great shape today.
