Case Study: Improving disabled access in a family home

A Stannah Midilift SL vertical platform lift has made life much easier for a family with a young disabled daughter, living near Winchester in Hampshire.

Linking the ground-floor living areas and the girl’s 1st-floor bedroom, the Midilift SL was installed in response to her increasing mobility needs as she grows. This access lift is located in a dedicated area created by architectural and interior designers, Parker Liddell, when the house was being refurbished before the family moved in.

“Having specified a Stannah Midilift in a previous project, we knew it to be a cost-effective, spatially economic solution to having a passenger lift, especially in a private home. It was ideal for this 1900s, Arts & Crafts-style house, and we configured the downstairs hallway around its requirements in the full knowledge that the allocated space would be filled when necessary.”
Charles Liddell, Director, Parker Liddell

The Midilift SL platform lift is accessed via a fully glazed, full-height door, and travels over a distance of 2390mm directly up into the girl’s bedroom, where a half-height, space-saving gated surround allows easy to-ing and fro-ing.

The roomy 1100mm x 1400mm platform also makes it easy for a family member to manoeuvre the child and her wheelchair in and out of the lift. Hydraulically driven, the.080m/s operation speed makes for efficient, reassuring travel.

The girl’s parents are delighted with the Midilift SL:

“Our daughter is growing up so fast and this wheelchair lift has made all the difference, not only to her mobility, but also to the quality of family life in general. She loves the rides, and they have been made more stimulating and enjoyable with the addition of her artwork – it’s quite the moving gallery!”
