Our refurbishment services keep our customers’ equipment up-to-date using all the latest technologies and meeting all the current standards without the need for total replacement. Products include all types of lifts, escalators and moving walkways. Our refurbishment expertise can help prolong the life of lift equipment and often cut running costs too. We carry out refurbishment work on equipment from any manufacturer – not just Stannah!

Where we begin

We start by carrying out a detailed survey of your lift so that we can then put forward our recommendations for lift refurbishment or modernisation in the form of a detailed specification. Our aim with any refurbishment or modernisation is to reduce the risk of lift failure, making them safer and more comfortable for everyone who interacts with them.

Refurbishing Lifts

The work undertaken during a lift refurbishment might include all or any of the following:

  • Modifying your lift to comply with current standards/legislation, such as: The Equality Act (formerly DDA); Health & Safety Legislation; The Lifts Regulations (1997); BS7255 Safe Working on Lifts; EN81-80
  • Aesthetic enhancements to the lift car and landing doors/entrances
  • Enhancements to control/drive systems to improve: reliability, ride quality, traffic flow
  • Automatic re-levelling
  • Travel speed

Refurbishing Escalators and Moving Walkways

Replacement of old moving walkways or escalators for new can incur large building work costs. Refurbishment or modernisation can upgrade equipment for a similar cost of the removal of old equipment, so can save budget, time and disruption to a business. We complete work on all makes and models of escalators and moving walkways, not just Stannah.

It is not always necessary to replace an escalator or moving walkway, we can help extend product life by refurbishing and upgrading of principal parts of the equipment. The choice to refurbish can be for a number of reasons, including:

  • Improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions
  • Reducing running costs
  • Improving the operational performance; including noise reduction and a smoother ride
  • Reducing breakdown incidents, so reducing downtime and loss of revenue, particularly in retail environments
  • We can also renew the aesthetic appearance of your escalators by replacing worn parts, polishing stainless steel, repainting steps/pallets, adding/replacing LED lighting, renewing handrails and helping to make your equipment look like new
Agreeing a schedule of work

Our engineers are acutely aware of how much lift equipment is relied on every day. They know downtime presents problems and needs careful management. That’s why we agree a mutually beneficial schedule of work. This ensures there is always means of access in the building. If there is only one lift then we can, and often do, supply a temporary lift solution while work is carried out.

Reporting and communication

Once on site we always keep our clients informed of progress regularly. If the work is part of a larger project involving the refurbishment of a whole site (such as Birmingham New Street regeneration) we employ a dedicated administrator to ensure our reporting is always accurate and in line with client requirements. Our extensive experience ably demonstrates that good communication ultimately leads to good outcomes for all.

Ensuring safety at all times

We take care in everything we do. The safety of our passengers, our customers and our engineers is our first priority. We will agree a schedule of work that minimises risk and complements the programme of complete works on or around the site. We work to OHSAS 18001 and our systems and procedures have been recognised by the Royal Society of the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA.)

With our nationwide coverage of service branches, projects are owned and managed locally. This means less travelling time and more time on site, getting on with the job.
